Greek Salad – The Original

The best known and best loved Greek dish, Greek salad is actually served every day in Greek households.

More than anything, this salad is about fresh, quality vegetables and your favourite feta cheese. You only need a few basic vegetables, tomato, cucumber and onion. Dress with plenty of olive oil and your Greek salad is ready to go.

You can then add on a great many tasty treats like cappers, peppers, or even croutons and rusks, if you feel like it.

This is an easy and nutritious salad. Kids and adults love it.

Tip: What Greek people enjoy the most us dipping freshly baked bread in the olive oil and juices of their Greek salad. Try it and let us know what you think!

And another tip: we have recently started peeling our tomatoes, especially when they are not totally in season. This all started because one of our grand-dads became convinced that big farma has bred tomatoes with thicker skin and to be honest, he may very well be right. Whatever the case, tomatoes certainly taste better peeled if not totally in season but they are delicious whenever and however one has them!

The best known and best loved Greek salad recipe


  • Greek Salad Basics
  • 3 tomatoes, diced

  • 1 cucumber, peeled and sliced

  • 1 onion, peeled and finely sliced

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 100 grams feta cheese

  • salt

  • The Usual Extras
  • 1 green pepper (your favorite kind)

  • 2 tablespoons cappers

  • oregano

  • olives

  • 1 teaspoon vinegar


  • Cut your tomatoes and cucumber into a bowl.
  • Salt lightly
  • Add the onion
  • Add the feta on top of the vegetables
  • Generously sprinkly with olive oil
  • If you are using vinegar, add a bit now
  • Add any other extras you fancy
  • Sprinkle with dried oregano and serve


  • This is enough for four people to eat as a side salad or meze. It’s enough for 2 if served as lunch
