Melomakarona Christmas Honey Cookies

This melomakarona recipe is all the rage this festive season in Greece. It is super quick and no baking, no sugar, no flour and no butter or oil!

Traditionally seeing melomakarona, the Greek Christmas honey cookies, in patisserie windows or laid out as treats at home, in lovely serving dishes, is a sure sign the holiday season has arrived. They are made using flour or semolina or a mixture of both. Greek homemakers spend a day baking incredible quantities of these treats. They are then dipped in honey and can last for weeks if keeps in a dry place.

But our no-bake recipe is much much easier.

Incredibly, our melomokarona are super delicious and very very seasonal. Every bite tastes of Christmas.

What’s more, they will be ready in a few minutes. But I do recommend you let them rest for a least a while. They get better every minute.

The secret to all those Christmassy smells lies in the two spices used. A tiny bit of ground cinnamon and a tiny bit of ground clove. We stock both of them at all times and recommend you do too.

The recipe is by Lele Gofa, a health and nutrition celebrity based in Greece. It includes all things nice, including dried Medjool Dates, a special variety of this amazing fruit that is extra sweet.

Everyone we know who’s tried it absolutely loves it. So go on, give it a go and serve them along our super easy kourabiedes!
